How
does a Air Conditioner work?
In simple terms, air conditioners cool an
indoor area by transferring heat to the outside through the
use of a refrigerant and the following components:
The five mechanical components in an air conditioning
system:
- A compressor
- A fan
- A condenser coil (hot)
- An evaporator coil (cool)
- A chemical refrigerant

The cooling cycle
- The refrigerant in the system takes up
the excess heat and is...
- ...pumped through
a closed system of piping to an outside coil.
- A fan blows outside air over the hot evaporator
coil.
- The air is cooled, and is routed this cool
air throughout your home through air ducts.
- The indoor area is cooled and filters remove
dust from the air.
