Q
Is it possible to have air conditioning in any type of house
or office?
A Yes.
There are various solutions to cater to whatever conditions
and environments, to suit your needs.
Q
How much does it cost to buy an air conditioner and what would
maintenance cost?
A Cost depends
on your needs and the model you choose. As for maintenance, most air conditioners
will only need a yearly service and the rest of the upkeep
would have to be done by you at home.
Q
What is the noise level of a typical air conditioner?
A This
completely depends on the model and brand you choose. Fan
models are generally noisier than the wall mounted duct models.
Q
How do I know what type of air conditioner I need?
A There
are basically two kinds of air conditioning systems: a central
cooling system and a unit air conditioner. A central cooling
system connects your entire home on one system, with each
room being cooled through vents. A unit air conditioner is
the detached “box-like” unit usually put in your
window.
For a small house, flat or studio, unit air
conditioners are the best option, as they are cheaper and
easy to install. For relatively large house that you want
to cool quickly with the flick of a switch, then a central
cooling system could be what you are looking for, but this
can cost you thousands of pounds.
Q
What are some of the things I should look for when purchasing an air conditioner?
A
Here are some things to look for:
• Warranty
It is a good idea to buy a unit with a one-year warranty (at
least) that covers labor and parts on the entire unit to give
you the option of returning it or having it serviced free
of charge should you have any problems. Some stores even offer
an extended warranty plan for an extra fee.
• Temperature Range and Increments
The temperature should not span less than 20°, with increments
of 1°-2. Digital systems rather than a dial, allows greater
precision and would be a better choice.
• Slide-out filter
Slide-out filters, rather than frame-enclosed ones, are easy
to remove and re-install, which can save you time and hassle
when cleaning.
• Fan speed settings
The more settings available, the more choices you have, resulting
in energy saving.
• Energy Saver or Sleep switch
Try and find a unit which features a sleep setting so that
at night when you are sleeping, the air conditioner slows
the cooling process to a minimum, saving money and energy.
• Installation
Make sure you understand how to install your new air conditioner
and that you have the correct manual with installation directions.
