Different types of Air Conditioning

types of Air ConditioningDomestic

  • Wall, free standing and ceiling air conditioners are the most common domestic models.
  • Stand alone air conditioners can be moved from room to room and are usually plugged into the wall.
  • Wall air conditioners are obviously attached to the wall and require a hole and an appropriate power source close by.

Commercial

  • Commercial air conditioners are mainly used for office buildings, as well as commercial and industrial sites.
  • The models used vary according to need, but generally the VRF wall mounted models are used in single offices and larger areas use multi system models.
  • Offices in an “inner “space use SMi design to remove the need for drawing air from the outside in, while buildings with outer walls are able to use the MMS system to draw air inside.

Portable Air Conditioners

  • Used both commercially and domestically for its obvious convenience.

Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) Units

VRF units are used for both cooling and heating, incorporating the latest inverter technology with an Intelligent Power Drive Unit (IPDU). It ensures maximum energy efficiency by utilizing heat recovery systems that facilitate one zone of the building that requires heating to transfer the cool air to another zone requiring cooling.

The two types of VRF currently on the market are the Super Multi Intelligence (SMi) and Modular Multi System (MMS).

Models / Units of AC

Window Unit

  • Easy to install into any standard window
  • Usually offers multiple cooling options.
  • The cheapest and most popular type.

Built-in window

  • May be installed into any standard double-hung window, or right into the wall.
  • Offers heat/cool and cooling with heat pump features as well as the standard cooling options.
  • Fancier than the standard window unit as it has more features, but it also usually consumes more energy.

Split System

  • Uses an outside air compressor option for quiet.
  • Mostly need to be professionally installed, adding to the cost.

Standard Single Fan

  • Easy to maintain with small compact design for storage in small places.
  • Available with vibration free rotary or scroll type compressors.

Standard Twin Fans

  • The same as the single fan models but twice as powerful.
  • Mainly used for industrial spaces.
  • Slightly less compact due to the double fan but still space convenient

2 Way Cassette

  • Quiet, adjustable and compact.
  • Wall mounted and quieter than the fan operated models.

4 Way Cassette

  • Wall mounted models that run at twice the speed of the 2 cassette models
  • Easy to install and maintain.

Ceiling

  • Can look more attractive than other models.
  • Can be fitted to almost any standard ceiling.
  • Easy to maintain and clean.

Floor/Wall

  • Slim line in design and normally remote controlled.
  • Fits into small spaces.
  • Convenient.
